Long before, closed dwelling areas for humans are simply called houses. Sophistication of the human species differentiated the simple house from the warmer and livable home. These days there is an alphabet soup of terms –from a room, pad, loft, apartment, condominium, townhouse and many more. They basically look the same, feel the same and sized the same but for the urbanite, these things are as different from night and day. These, dwellings and abodes, have also become a lifestyle, a status symbol, an investment.
There are many considerations in looking for a home these days. The traditional price, size and coziness have also given way to accessibility, functionality and design. With the work and business at break neck speed and on 24-7 cycle, having a comfortable domain that is closer to work and closer to recreational facilities are being considered by the modern urban dweller.
Young, single career people trailblazing their way to the top may choose from simple units like a simple room or a pad. These spaces are small and basic, enough for the simplest of amenities. With funds also being paid for a car, for the wardrobe or some investments in stocks, a simple living space is the ideal for the starter.
Couples or even bachelors who want to project a lifestyle with a statement may choose a loft. It is bigger usually with an overlooking space (thus, a loft) floating over the entire living space. Creative minds with sophisticated tastes usually go for this choice as it has enough space and depth for decorations, accents and themes. It may even be big enough for a small party among friends. Loft goes with a rather big budget as it usually entails an LCD or Plasma TV, a small kitchen, a cozy living room and maybe a small library. It brandishes a statement. However, that one has a taste and is willing to live the life.
Condominiums are mostly located in the city center and are a main choice for urban career-oriented individuals who want to work hard and party harder. Those who choose stay in condominium units pay a premium for proximity to work and party places and a bigger space usually to fit both the living, working and recreation areas.
For those with deep pockets, they go up the top floor for the penthouse – basically a condominium unit but with a bang. Overlooking the city with a commanding view, penthouses are for those who have achieved the pinnacle of success at work and in business. There is no better way to make a statement than a penthouse suit right smack in downtown.
Townhouses are usually for small families who still want to be near the city or in the suburbs. It is spacious with two or three bedrooms with a lawn – perfect for kids, a dog and a garage for a car.
Choosing an apartment or a living space relies mainly on one’s budget as well as the lifestyle one wants to live. In this day and age, dwelling places are not just for the bed and the breakfast table, it is a statement.
